Feel the early summer breeze in Iwate and enjoy Japan to the fullest!

About Iwate Galaxy 100km Marathon

Iwate Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region of Japan. The "Iwate Galaxy 100km Marathon," an ultra-marathon held here every June, is an ONEWAY course with a height difference of 450m through Kitakami City, Kanegasaki Town, Hanamaki City, Nishiwaga Town, and Shizukuishi Town in Iwate Prefecture.

As you continue along the severe mountain roads with almost no flat roads and no people or cars coming along, you will be greeted by a wide variety of nature, including views of rice fields, mountains, forests, and lakes, the clear air of early summer, and the sounds of wind and rivers playing. The lake and mountains seen from the Toyosawa Dam at the 50 km point are especially spectacular.

At the aid stations, you will be greeted by local volunteers who will make you feel at home.

The refreshing early summer breeze in the great nature of Iwate, the sense of togetherness of all participants running together, the warm contact with local people...

Everything you experience at the Iwate Galaxy 100km Marathon will be an irreplaceable memory of your time in Japan.

Among Japan's four relatively distinct seasons, June, when the Iwate Galaxy 100km Marathon is held, is early summer, warm and pleasant in terms of climate.

Fuji, the symbol of Japan, and the tourist destinations with distinctive history and culture, such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, also come alive.

Another fun part of sightseeing is shopping. Visitors can enjoy shopping for traditional folk crafts, Japan's world-class electronics, fashion, cosmetics, and more.

The UNESCO World Heritage site of Hiraizumi, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in June 2011, was established 850 years ago and has passed on its unique culture and peaceful ideals to future generations, refusing to bow to pressure from the central government.

Iwate is also one of the most famous hot spring resorts in Japan. You can heal your tired body after a marathon by visiting the hot springs, or enjoy the local sake and delicious local cuisine.
